It happened that I need to come up with a logo design. But, unfortunately, I did not have a lot of experience with logo creation. Maybe some of you too. So I would like to share a logo design process that I tried and found beneficial.
First, you need to find out how your customer positions itself on the market? Who are their ideal clients? Who are their competitors?
Now it is time for competitor analysis. Find as many competitors as possible. Take screenshots of their logo — sort by grouping by similar criteria.
After competitor analysis, it is time for a Mind map. First, on a piece of paper, make a list of words associated with a product. Next, pick 3 of them, write each on the middle of a separate page and write down the association to each word you choose. Then look for some words that are similar in meaning.
Based on word connections, create a Mood board. For example: during my Mind Map for a Tea shop, I could pick words: top hat, white, wisdom. Now I need to search for ideas and inspirations that connect with those words — Good places for exploring: https://dribbble.com, https://www.behance.net.
After all your hard work, now it is time for drawing. Draw 20+ ideas for your logo. Try to push yourself further. You don’t need to be an artist to do this. Just scatch your ideas; you will polish them later. When you have done it, pick the one that you like the most. Now it is time to polish it and transfer it to vector.
