If you want to make a line of Latin text vertical, the best way is to type a word horizontally and rotate it. This is because Roman letters were designed to sit next to each other. Ascenders and descenders of lowercase letters make the spacing between them looking not proportional and awkward. Capital letters look better in a stack, mainly if they are centered.
